About Us
Truro River Rowing Club (TRRC) is a friendly and competitive club dedicated to rowing and racing Cornish Pilot Gigs.
We run both competitive and social squads, offering opportunities for those who want to race hard as well as those who simply enjoy getting out on the river in great company.
Our two wooden racing boats, Carrick & Spurr along with our heritage boat, Royal, represent the club at regattas and events across Cornwall & the South West.
All rowing takes place from Loe Beach, Feock with our land training taking place at the Gig Shed in Penelewey.

History
The lower Fal has hosted rowing for centuries, with the earliest Malpas regatta recorded in 1559 and an 1889 article dubbing it the “Henley of the West.”
Truro River Rowing Club, now focused on Cornish Pilot Gigs, continues this long tradition. Founded in 1985 by Dave and Jo Pearce with Ralph Bird, the club had rowed informally for a few years using gigs from Newquay Rowing Club. Early races, known as Ralph’s Races, ran along various stretches of the river.
Ralph Bird helped revive gig rowing in the 1980s, building Energy, the first new Cornish Pilot Gig in 1985. TRRC was formed to use her.
Since June 2020, TRRC has been a charitable incorporated organisation (charity no. 1190075).
